Abstract
Background-Common cause of Traumatic optic neuropathy mostly due to RTA. Aim- To assess the visual outcome in pts from July,20 to Aug,21 treated with IV methylprednisolone in our hospital. Method- 22 pts within 11-50 years, 21 M, 1 F. Clinical evaluation and follow-up at 1,6,12 months. Results- In all pts presenting VA ranged from > 6/60 (9%) to No PL (31%). 11 pts (50%) observed, 11 pts (50%) treated with IV methylprednisolone. Visual improvement noted in steroid group 45%. Visual improvement depending on presenting VA was 100% in pts who had > 6/60 vision. Visual improvement in the treated group was 44% on follow-up. Pts presenting within 24 hours, visual improvement was 66.7%. More pts affected within 21-30 years (51%). Conclusion-Steroid reduces neural tissue edema. Here 100% cases showed improvement when they had vision >6/60, 43% improvement when it was CF-6/60. Early intervention led to good recovery. 2 wheelers are at particular risk and can be reduced by helmet use.
