Abstract
Background-Ocular anomalies are not common but they are potential cause of childhood blindness. Early screening is advocated to enable early detection & prompt intervention. Purpose- To observe paediatric ocular anomalies clinically &their effect on vision. Methods-A prospective hospital based study conducted for a period of 2 yrs .Age & sex of the patient, gestational age, maternal history occurrence of consanguinity, distribution of various subtype of congenital anomalies, association with other systemic anomalies noted. Results-Among 7411 patients ocular anomalies found in1.59%.History of consanguineous marriage found to be9.32%.most common ocular anomalies CNLDO-44.06% followed by congenital coloboma-25.43%.most common ocular symptom watering-41.52% followed by defective vision.46.66% underwent surgery. Conclusion-Early diagnosis, meticulous examination & skill full surgical intervention can cure most of the congenital anomalies & prevent the child being visually handicapped.
