Abstract
To evaluate a 39 year old, young male presenting with blurring of vision, discomfort with burning sensation since one year. History of use of lubricants, antibiotic eye drops present. A complete ophthalmic examination was done using slit lamp, fluorescein staining, TBUT and schirmer’s test were done. Schirmer’s- abnormally low. Patient was referred to General Medicine OPD to rule out Sjogren’s syndrome or connective tissue disorder. Relevant investigations were done. The visual acuity of the patient was noted to be 6/18. Anterior segment examination revealed diffuse superficial punctate keratitis with positive stain. ANA profile was negative, but ESR was raised, RA factor was positive. Lip biopsy result- features of Sjogren’s syndrome. The patient was diagnosed with Primary Sjogren’s syndrome and symptomatic treatment for dry eye with lubricants and dark glasses, systemic treatment with oral steroids and HCQ were initiated and patient was asked to come for follow up after 3 months.
