Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To analyze the presentation and ocular manifestations in multiple myeloma.
METHOD: A 59year old female patient presented to ophthalmology OPD with swelling in the temporal region of right eye followed by proptosis of right eye. She complained of backpain and lower limb pain. Thorough proptosis evaluation is done.
RESULTS: On examination, distance between lateral orbital margin to apex of cornea was 22mm in right eye, 18mm in left eye. CT scan showed a large expansile intra osseous lesion occupying extraconal space of right orbit. Tissue biopsy of swelling showed a poorly differentiated neoplasm.
CONCLUSION: Orbital involvement of systemic neoplasias like multiple myeloma are usually unilateral, rare and the ocular manifestations are uncommon and variable. They may appear initially or at a later stage in disease process. Knowledge regarding the manner of presentation may help in earlier diagnosis and a positive influence on disease course.
