Abstract
Purpose:To report a case of necrotizing fasciitis(NF) of lid in a male child.Method:Child presented to eye OPD with signs of fever, pain and lesion over left upper lid since 5 days. There was history of trauma 10 days back over left upper lid followed by upper lid skin inflammation.Local examination done showed a blackish eschar over the lid involving the lid margin. It was superficial, firm in consistency.Rest anterior and posterior segment was WNL. A clinical diagnosis of NF was made on the basis of findings.Result:Treatment with an early wound debridement, excision of nonviable tissue, and wide spectrum cover with intravenous antibiotics for 5 days was given. Conclusion:NF is a rare but potentially fatal infection involving the subcutaneous tissue and fascia. It is caused by either single organism or more frequently by variety of microbes -both aerobic and anaerobic. It is commonly known as flesh eating disease.Only early diagnosis and aggressive surgical treatment can reduce morbidity.
