Abstract
Purpose: To correlate foveal slope angle (FSA), retinal (RT) and choroidal (CT) thickness measured using OCT across different stages of type 2 MacTel with visual acuity (VA).
Methods: A cross-sectional study of 182 gradable quality macular OCT images of 49 patients with type 2 MacTel was done. RT was measured on the Spectralis OCT from ETDRS retinal thickness map and later used for calculating FSA. RT and CT were measured at 500µm intervals up to 1500µm from foveal centre manually. Change in RT, CT and FSA across different stages was assessed. Measurements were correlated with VA.
Results: FSA, RT and CT were calculated quadrant wise and stagewise. FSA and RT showed a significant negative correlation with disease stage and VA (p<0.05) in all 4 quadrants. No correlation was noted between CT and VA. Multivariate linear regression analysis identified the temporal FSA to correlate best with VA. Conclusion:VA correlates best with temporal FSA. Smaller the temporal FSA, poorer the vision.
