Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate differences in choroidal vascular morphology between eyes with macular PCV and peripheral PCV.

Methods: In this single-centre, retrospective, comparative case series, patients diagnosed either with macular or peripheral PCV on indocyanine green angiography and/or fluorescein angiography and OCT were studied. The clinical presentation, natural history, and clinical outcomes were studied.

Results: 20 eyes belonged to macular PCV group and 17 eyes to peripheral PCV group. The findings suggested the haemorrhagic complications to be severe in peripheral PCV without affecting the visual acuity. The subfoveal choroid was thicker on OCT and dense larger choroidal vessels at the posterior pole in the macular PCV group compared to the peripheral PCV group. 2 eyes in the peripheral PCV group underwent surgical intervention.

Conclusion: The choroid in the peripheral PCV group and macular PCV is different. Further larger studies are required to understand these differences.
