Abstract
Snake bites are very common in India, particularly in rural area. Local and systemic manifestations are very commonly seen. High mortality is also encountered. But ophthalmic manifestations of snakebite have rarely been reported in the literature.
We are reporting a case of 55 yr old male who presented with sudden, painless decreased vision in both eyes following snake bite on left foot after 5 days .On examination, BCVA in right eye-6/12;N18 and in left-6/9;N8.Anterior segment was normal .Dilated fundoscopy -CDR -0.6:1,normal general fundus. HVF(30-2) of both eyes revealed left homonymous hemianopia. MRI Brain- acute infarct in right PCA & left MCA territory. MRI Angiography showed irregularities and partial filling defect in bilateral PCA.
Ophthalmic manifestations of snakebite are very rare, which include ophthalmoplegia. keratomalacia, uveitis, glaucoma, CRAO, vitreous hemorrhage, optic neuritis, globe necrosis and visual loss due to cortical infarction.
