Abstract
Mucormycosis is a rare, severe, opportunistic infection with fungi of the order mucorales. Rhino orbito cerebral mucormycosis is the common form.
Material- 11 cases of mucormycosis were examined of which 8 had orbital findings. Detail ophthalmic examination – va, slit lamp, contrast enhanced ct scan MRI orbit was done. Ophthalmic presenting features- lid oedema-8, chemosis-4, periocular and facial oedema-4, discolouration of lid/face-4, proptosis-6,ptosis-3, ocular motility restrictions-6, diplopia-2, facial palsy-3.
Associated systemic features-fever-4,past history of covid 19-11, diabetics – 8, controlled-3, uncontrolled-5,malignancy-nil, poor general condition-1.
VA->6/24-2, 6/24 to CF3 metre 2, PL-ve-4.
Management- retroorbital amphoterecinB3mg/ml-6, posaconazole300mg 2times day 1300mg od day2 onwards, orbital exenteration-1
Conclusion-ROCM is asevere opportunistic fungal infection. Destructive exenteration is life saving. retroorbital amphotericin B and posaconazole is helpful.
