Abstract
AIM:To study the clinical outcomes of Primary PMMA orbital implants in patients following Evisceration and Enucleation.Material and Methods:Prospective consecutive interventional case series from 1stOctober 2020 to 31stMay 2021 in a tertiary eye care center. Demography, clinical, ocular, systemic assessment recorded. Standard surgical technique was used.PMMA implant was wrapped in sclera in enucleation, directly placed in scleral pocket in evisceration. Post op follow-up was on 1st day, 1,4 and 6 weeks. Implant exposure, extrusion, migration, motility, orbital volume replacement were recorded. Results:Mean age of presentation was 41.1± 23.18years,mostly acquired (84%).Mean horizontal excursion was 7.06±0.68mm, mean vertical excursion was 8.94 ± 0.75mm, mean motility index was 4.02±0.27mm.Mean size of PMMA implant 15.95±1.24.Implant extrusion was in 5%, exposure in 2% ,good volume replacement in 78%.Conclusion:PMMA implant in destructive surgery has good outcome with minimal complication.
