Abstract

A 15-year-old male presented with blurring of vision in left eye following stick injury with BCVA 20/60. Anterior segment showed a self-sealed full thickness paracentral corneal tear and normal intraocular pressure. Fundus examination revealed edematous disc, peripapillary hemorrhages, dilated tortuous veins, intraretinal, preretinal and mild vitreous hemorrhage. Ocular decompression retinopathy has been described with sudden lowering of intraocular pressure, amply reported after trabeculectomy and with multiple other surgical and medical procedures. We describe a case of decompression retinopathy following self-sealing full thickness corneal tear, a previously undescribed entity. A differential of central retinal vein occlusion was ruled out as hemorrhages were confined to peripapillary region, presence of preretinal and vitreous hemorrhage, absence of systemic history suggestive of raised intra-abdominal or thoracic pressure, young age and presentation immediately after injury.
