Abstract

Every year many patients lose the sight in one or both eyes due to trauma. A significant number of eyes can be saved if care is taken preoperatively to look out for subtle clues that may give an indication about underlying conditions. A young female presented to out patient department with significant diminution of vision in her left eye. At presentation, she gave history of trivial trauma. On slit-lamp examination she was found to have cataract in the left eye. On detailed examination, it was found that she had suffered a penetrating injury and that her lens had been injured due to that injury. on further examination, a subtle posterior capsule tear was also identified behind the cataract. Surgery was planned accordingly and the capsular tear was managed on table. IOL was placed in the bag and the patient regained good visual acuity. We conclude that extra minutes spent during examination can help in planning proper management of case and avoid trouble during surgery.
