Abstract

Purpose:To report an unusual case of projectile injury to the eye by a bullet.Methods:27-year-old male presented with injury sustained to Left Eye by a bullet while emptying rifle magazine.On evaluation DVA was HMCF with accurate projection of rays,9mm vertical linear corneal laceration involving the visual axis with adjacent corneal edema,peaked pupil,hyphema,cataractous lens and hypotony.Results:Under GA primary repair of corneal laceration was done,however cataractous lens could not be removed due to poor visibility.Subsequently lens aspiration with a three piece IOL implantation was performed after six days.After eight weeks, sequential removal of sutures was done.At three months postop, his vision improved to 6/36.Conclusion:Bullet injury wounds to the eye can be catastrophic with poor visual prognosis and devastating outcomes.Management of such injuries is challenging and requires effective planning and ingenious operative techniques to achieve the best possible visual outcome.
