Abstract
Aim: To analyse inner and outer canthal distance (ICD; OCD), palpebral fissure width (PFW), inter pupillary distance (IPD) and canthal index in children with features of pseudostrabismus; to compare the measured and calculated IPD (mIPD & cIPD). Methods: Prospective study of 60 children (6 months-18 years) with features of pseudostrabismus. ICD, OCD, PFW & IPD were measured by digital vernier caliper. Canthal index formula: ICD×100/ OCD. Data was analysed statistically. Results: mean age- 6.659±3.565 years. Mean ICD, OCD : Male(M): 30.89±3.33 mm, 87.96±8.09 mm ; female(F): 30.91±3.05, 86.22±6.81mm. Mean right eye PFW: M: 28.53±2.63mm; F: 27.66± 2.22mm; left eye: M: 28.53mm±2.63, F: 27.66±2.22mm . Significant correlation was found between mIPD & cIPD in both M & F. Conclusion: These values contribute to normative data, management of orbitofacial reconstruction surgeries, spectacle frame making. Measuring IPD can be tough in younger children; cIPD can be a simple alternative.
