Abstract
Dr. GOPAL S. PILLAI
Intravitreal injections have now become one of the most common therapeutic procedures done by an ophthalmologist. With expanding indications and retreatments, every comprehensive ophthalmologist is compelled to start doing intravitreal injections. All comprehensive ophthalmologists should know the correct indications, contraindications, follow up and retreatment criteria to make themselves fully competent in giving injections.
Medical retina practice over the next few years will witness individualization and personalization of treatment to individual patients based on severity of disease, imaging biomarkers, visual acuity, visual needs and economics of patient. This IC will comprehensively cover protocols in diseases like AMD, DR and RVO and the scope of individualizing therapy to suit each patient.
Personalizing therapies include choosing the best anti VEGF for the given patient in starting and continuing treatment, principles to retreat or switch based on evidence and literature.
