Abstract
Aim-The absence of extraocular muscles has been recognized as a rare cause of strabismus, causes being congenital, traumatic, iatrogenic.Through this video we describe three cases of absent/missing muscles causing strabismus and their management.Methods-In case 1,there was absent inferior and lateral rectus secondary to infected scleral buckle and was managed by inferior oblique transposition and medial rectus Nishida procedure. The second case shows congenital absence of lateral rectus muscle managed by medial rectus recession and vertical rectus transpostion. The third case is traumatic disruption of medial rectus muscle which was managed by lateral rectus hangback recession and medial rectus muscle exploration and periosteal fixation. Conclusion-In case of squint secondary to missing muscles,Pre operative imaging, forced duction test and intraoperative exploration helps in diagnosis.Surgery though challenging can be managed with modifications like hangback recession and transposition.
