Abstract
OCT angiography (OCTA) is a technology which can non-invasively image blood vessels of the eye. It has generated interest amongst glaucoma specialists since reduced ocular perfusion has been theorized in the pathogenesis of glaucoma. However, prior to incorporating any new technology into our clinics, it is important to establish that it provides additional information when compared to the standard diagnostic tests. In this video, we describe the current OCTA technology and methodically evaluate its role as a diagnostic tool for glaucoma management. Our research highlights the unique vascular information provided by OCTA, which helps in glaucoma diagnosis and in the monitoring of advanced disease where conventional OCT has limited value due to the ‘floor effect’ of the RNFL analysis. OCTA also provides additional information about the vascular risk factors for glaucoma progression. Hence, it is time we start incorporating OCTA in our glaucoma practice.
