Abstract
With the development of new technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) has been one of the most influential technology revolutions in the world. Artificial intelligence involves mainly machine learning and deep learning. Glaucoma is the 2nd most common cause of blindness in the world with a prevalence of over 80 million by the year 2020. Early detection can delay the progression of glaucoma. Hence, it is important to emphasise on glaucoma screening. AI can help in glaucoma screening, as it has the ability to speed up and streamline diagnosis and reduce the risk of errors. Algorithms provided by AI may be able to pick up and determine which patients are truly at risk. AI does this by: interpretation of fundus photos, visual fields, OCT, structure and function correlation. The future of AI in glaucoma aims in including factors like clinical data, genomic data, risk factors, medical history to predict risk of developing glaucoma, best management protocols, prognosis and surgical success.
