Abstract
Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXF) is an age-related fibrillopathy targeting ocular tissues like lens capsule, zonules, pupillary margin, corneal endothelium, iris and ciliary body. The difficulty quotient in cataract surgery increases due to zonular weakness, alterations in anterior segment tissues and inadequate pupil dilation. In this video we aim to enumerate pre and post-operative considerations and emphasize on intra- operative modifications for a safe cataract surgery in PXF. Here, we aim to demonstrate the technique of using various surgical devices like Malyugin ring, iris hooks to manage the pupil and Capsular tension rings, segments to stabilize the capsular bag with variable degrees of zonular instability in PXF eyes. In nutshell, this video will provide tips and tricks to deal with various challenges that one can come across while managing cataract with PXF, thereby improving the clinical outcomes and minimizing the complications.
