Abstract
Aim- To report a case of massive orbital myiasis in a 70-year-old woman in whom more than 120 larvae were removed.
A 70-year-old woman had presented to the outpatient department with chief complaints of worms crawling out of her right cheek since 7days, with associated pain and foul-smelling discharge. She gives a history of severe facial swelling over the right orbital margin with the presence of crawling sensations since 2 weeks. She also gives a history of upper molar tooth extraction for a tooth caries 1 month back.
On examination of the right orbital area hundreds of maggots were crawling out of an ulcerative fungating lesion extending from medial canthus to lateral orbital wall involving the floor of the orbit measuring around 11cm x 4cm with ill-defined,indurated, ulcer margins. There was no perception of light in the right eye with total restriction of ocular motility, left eye had a vision of 6/60 with normal anterior segment.
