Abstract
In this study 10 eyes of 10 patients with pellucid marginal degeneration underwent corneal inlay procedure under topical anaesthesia. The inferior ectatic cornea is marked pre operatively following which an intra-stromal pocket is created using a crescent blade and lamellar dissector. Accordingly a donor stroma is trimmed to a crescent shape and inserted into the intrastromal pocket. Post operatively the patients were started on low dose topical steroids which were tapered over one month. Uncorrected visual acuity, best corrected visual acuity, pentacam, AS-OCT and refraction were assessed at 1 month, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years post procedure. There was a significant improvement in best corrected visual acuity with a stable corneal topography until two years of follow up. This procedure offers the advantage of no endothelial rejection, suture related astigmatism, wound gaping or steroid related complications hence could be a good option to treat advanced pmd.
