Abstract
AIM- To study the demography, predisposing factors, etiology and outcome of management of corneal ulcer in tertiary center Vishakhapatnam. METHOD AND MATERIAL- A retrospective analysis of 50 diagnosed corneal ulcers was done. predisposing factors, clinical picture of ulcer noted on slit lamp, clinical diagnosis, scraping material culture result, management and outcome were noted and results were interpreted. RESULT-Males >60years were affected commonly, farmers(25%). Stick injury 40%. Foreign body 30%. Systemic factors,10% are diabetics, local factors BLEPHARITIS 45%. 43% positive corneal scrapings. In this 78%fungi rest were bacteria. After 5%Natamycin eye drops and oral ketoconazole 200mg once daily for fungal corneal ulcer. 46% improved in 1week and 30% in 2weeks. CONCLUSION-Corneal ulcer were predominantly seen in males >60 years(Farmers). Fungus (ASPERGILLUS) being main etiological organism. A majority of cases were well managed by proper scraping, culture and specific therapy.
