Abstract
Purpose: To describe swept source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) findings in commotio retinae
Methods: Patients with close globe injury with commotio retinae involving the macula were included in the study. 9 mm Radial scan centred on fovea was captured with Topcon DRI OCT Triton.
Results: Ten eyes were included in the study. The structural alterations of retinal layers on OCT were minimal in contrast to the extensive retinal whitening seen on color fundus photograph. Vertical hyperreflective band spanning full thickness of fovea was seen in all the eyes. Hyperreflectivity and widening of outer plexiform layer (OPL) in the perifoveal retina was seen in 6 eyes. In few areas the hyperreflectivity extended from OPL to ellipsoid zone.
Conclusion: Analyses of SS-OCT shows that commotio retinae involves the outer retina particularly the outer plexiform layer
