Abstract
Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders(NMOSD)are antibody mediated chronic inflammatory disorders of the nervous system.Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein (MOG) antibodies is the main culprit.Patients matching the criteria for NMOSD were included. They underwent a thorough clinical evaluation, blood tests, neuroimaging and lumbar puncture. All patients received pulse methyl prednisolone(IVMP)and immunomodulation.
Out of 60 NMOSD patients,70% were MOG antibody positive. All presented with acute optic neuritis,of which 30% were bilateral.Sequential optic neuritis was noted in 40% of the cases & recurrence in 5%.Chiasmal involvement was noted in 15%,optic neuritis with transverse myelitis in 5%.Optic neuritis with brainstem syndrome in 3.33% of the cases.Cranial nerve[sixth]involvement was noted in 1.67% of the cases.Neuroimaging revealed various CNS findings with majority involving retrobulbar segment extending upto chiasma.Early intervention results in a favorable outcome.
