Abstract
Aim: To evaluate status of serum AQP4 and MOG Antibody in Atypical Optic Neuritis Material and method : Medical records of 67 patients with atypical ON were reviewed retrospectively. The following data were extracted: medical history, findings of the ocular examination, brain, orbital or spinal MRI ,autoimmune workup and serological tests for AQP4 and MOG Antibody. The clinical findings , disease course, and outcomes were analysed and compared according to the serostatus of the ON.
Results; 11% ( 7/ 67 ) were positive for MOG antibodies and 9 %( 6/67) were positive for AQP4 antibodies.MOG positive ON had better visual outcome(p<.05) ,more recurrences (p<.05) than AQP4 positive ON. AQP4 positive ON were more likely to have spinal chord involvement(p<.05). Bilateral involvement with female preponderance was common to both(p>.05)
Conclusion- MOG positive ON was more common than AQP4 positive ON. They have distinct phenotypes and outcomes
