Abstract
This prospective study was conducted to assess the safety and efficacy of transzonular injection of moxifloxacin and dexamethasone combination as a substitute of standard topical regimen in phacoemulsification. A total of 90 eyes were included, which were divided in Group 1 (n=30) in which transzonular Moxi+Dexa was given and Group 2 (n=60) which was followed up with standard topical drug regimen. The eyes were assessed for inflammation, visual acuity, and IOP on day 1, 3, 7, and 28. Most of the patients attained VA 6/9, the grades of inflammation were lower in Group 1 in early postoperative period with the groups showing no inflammation at day 28. No significant change in IOP was noted in any of the group. We conclude that transzonular approach had a therapeutic response and tolerance that were equivalent or even superior to conventional regimen in controlling postoperative inflammation.
