Abstract
Purpose: To compare outcomes between mini- SLET and CAG fixation with fibrin glue following pterygium excision Methods: 92 eyes with primary nasal pterygium were prospectively randomized into a CAG control arm and mini-SLET study arm. Follow-up examinations were set at day 1, 3; weeks 1, 2 & 4, and 3 & 6 months after surgery. Primary outcome measure was recurrence rate and secondary outcome measures were intraoperative time, postoperative symptoms and other complications. Results: 82 eyes completed 6-months of follow-up. Of the 42 eyes (CAG), 4 (9.5%) had recurrences whereas 1 (2.5%) in mini-SLET (40 eyes) had recurrence (p=0.358). Surgical time (p<0.001) was more in study group. Postoperative median symptom score was more in control arm till 7 days post-surgery. Except dellen formation, both groups showed other complications, though less in study group. Conclusion: The study group shows a positive trend of less recurrence with reduced postoperative symptoms and other complications.
