Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate outcome, intra and post-operative complications of SICS by fellows and to determine the training facilities of SICS-oriented educational resources in eastern India. Methods: retrospective review was done for SICS performed by10 comprehensive fellow ophthalmologists between January 2018 and December 2019 at rural eye hospital of eastern Indian. Postoperative visual acuity, intra and post-operative complications were measured, to assess SICS-related content in their surgical curriculum. Results: 7915 SICS performed by fellows, including all types of cataracts. Intra-operative complications mostly during wound construction and cortex wash, and postoperative was corneal striae, iritis. Re-surgery rate 6%.BCVA was 6/18 or better in 80% patients and 95% showed improved BCVA following SICS. Conclusion: SICS by fellows is safe and effective, as consultant will always be present in OT. Training programs might consider simulation based curriculum, including wet labs
