Abstract
AIMS-To compare intraop Effective phacotime (EPT), Ultrasound (US) energy and post op visual acuity(VA) by FLACS and conventional phacoemulsification(CP)
METHOD- Prospective, randomized study including 100 eyes done at a tertiary center. Patients included were above 50 yr with LOCS 3 grading with no other ocular pathology. Complete ocular evaluation was done and patients divided into 2 groups -CP and FLACS by concealed allocation method and all parameters noted and followed at day1,7.
RESULT- Both groups were comparable at baseline. US energy and mean EPT were(8.58±3.08,1.71±0.67) (10.96±4.06, 1.71 ±0.67)in FLACS and CP respectively. The difference was statistically significant. Mean improvement in UCVA from pre op on day1,7 was (0.55±0.25, 0.67±0.21)( 0.42±0.26, 0.72±0.16) in FLACS and CP respectively and the difference was Statistically significant on day1 .
CONCLUSION- Although FLACS resulted in decreased EPT,US energy but final Visual outcome was similar in both groups on day7 .
