Abstract
AIM: Study to understand the ophthalmic features of facial nerve palsy patients.MATERIALS AND METHODS :An observational study from August 2020 to august 2021.Analyzed 50 eyes from 50 facial nerve palsy patients Results: 50patients from15-65 years,Male to female ratio(31 : 19). Causes of facial palsy were as follows-Bells palsy,Trauma,CVA. Conservative treatments were conducted along with invasive procedures,60% patients treated with prednisolone alone and acyclovir-prednisolone recovered within 5 months.Signs improved in 75% of patients with lagophthalmos, 90% with corneal epithelium defect, 60% with epiphora. CONCLUSIONS: Ophthalmic features were mainly lagophthalmos and corneal lesions.Prompt referral, early and appropriate intervention from our side prevents serious ophthalmic sequelae like vision loss.
