Abstract
AIMS: To determine various risk factors associated with posterior capsular opacification and to analyse its visual outcome
MATERIALS & METHODS: A prospective study from August2020 to August2021.Cases were followed up for 1year. 50patients with defective vision with cataractous changes were recruited, followed every week for first 1month followed by monthly for 1year
RESULT:Mean age of presentation was 44 years. Age range taken was from 5 to 60 years. Out of these 21 were males and 29 were females. Out of these 12 were below 12 years. Out of 50patients 10 had history of longterm intake of steroids. Out of 50patients, a total of 22 developed PCO
CONCLUSION:After 1year of follow up, we have analysed paediatric cataract and steroid induced cataract have high incidence of PCO formation. This can be avoided by taking precautions like making posterior capsulorhexis with or without anterior vitrectomy during cataract surgery
Key words:Posterior capsular opacification,Visual outcome
